Jasper and Banff National Parks - Page 2

The next day we went off south on Alaskan Highway, still in heavy rain. As we reached Dawson Creek we wanted to find the spot where everybody starts their journey north along the Highway. However the rain was so strong that we decided to move on into Alberta and by the late afternoon the rain had stopped and we had reached Hinton just outside the Jasper National Park. Here we stayed at a nice motel with views to the snow capped Rocky Mountain to the west.

In the evening we went for a pizza at a local Pizza hut. As we are used to in Europe we asked for red wine with our meal. First we were told that wine was not appropiate with pizza but we insisted. Then the waitress asked us
to open the bottle ourselves. So we did and we had a wonderful meal including exceptional panoramic views around.

Next day we entered Jasper National Park for a small fee for 8 days. This park is a natural wonder both for its abundance of wildlife and for the magnificent natural scenery. At noon we entered Jasper village where we found a small but comfortable room at the Athabascan hotel for a

The afternoon was spent locally making a phone call to Denmark to assure that everything was OK in Jęgerspris and washing all our dirty clothes at a laundry close by. The following two day we explored as much of the scenery around Jasper as we could. First we drove up to Maligne Lake which is south of Jasper. In the visitor center at the lake we both bought small rucksacks for hiking along the trails in the viscinety. However Jenses rucksack was broken when he
tried it on. We returned and the lady in the shop was extremely kind and exchanged it for a much better quality without any extra charge. This rucksack has since then been on so many trips around the world and is really of superb quality. In the vast nature along the lake we were almost alone. It was so quiet and we had so nice views to all the mountain peaks around.
