We left Gatlinburg early Friday morning and went up through West Virginia on a sunny day. Beautiful green forests in the mountains and that lovely feeling of freedom on the American highway! What more could you possibly wish? Southeast of Charleston we passed the very impressive New River Gorge. From the highway you hardly realize that you are driving on the worlds largest single span suspension bridge. But to get a magnificent view of this impressive steel construction you should turn off to the Canyon Rim Visitor Center where you can enjoy an exhibition of the construction work. Afterwards you should walk down the adjacent boardwalk to a viewing platform with spectacular views to the bridge.

From the viewing platform you also have a impressive view along the river and the forested river banks. The drive to Pittsburgh was uncomplicated except for a few miles south of the city due to repair work. We arrived at South Negley around 6 o´clock and Michael was waiting for us (and his car of course).

During the weekend we made plans for our trip to Canada where Michael would join us. We also went shopping at Monroeville on Saturday morning as we had emptied all Michael´s provision of food. During the whole trip we had been envying all the American cars especially those with four wheel drive. So we also went to the Ford and Toyota car dealers to dream further about Ford Explorer and Toyota 4xRunner. "Perhaps sometime in the future ----- " ?
