Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site, national historic site designated in 1959, originally a national park established in 1916. Located near Hodgenville, Kentucky, the park memorializes the site of Sinking Spring Farm, where United States President Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865) was born on February 12, 1809. The Lincoln family later moved a few miles away to Knob Creek, Kentucky. The site features a 19th-century log cabin representing the home in which Lincoln might have been born. Fifty-six steps lead to the cabin and represent the number of years Lincoln was alive. Administered by the National Park Service. Area, 47 hectares (117 acres).
