French 1 Course

This is NOT a curriculum but an outline of what is covered in each chapter of the text. For the most part the material in this course corresponds with the topics in each chapter of the Scott Forseman textbook Dis-moi, copyright 1990.
Language courses try to cover all five aspects of language learning: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture. The emphasis, techniques, and extra material of individual teachers may be different but the core topics should remain the same. The number of chapters covered will vary depending on the year but French 1 should cover through chapter 9 in the text to be able to deal effectively with French 2.
The videos series "French in Action" is part of the overall French curriculum. This is a college course from PBS. It is excellent for building oral comprehension skills and for its cultural content. There are 54 episodes which increase in difficulty, length and amount of material covered. The series is begun in French 1 with about 5 episodes covered. The next fifteen to twenty are watched in French 2 with the remaining covered in French 3 and 4.
